Eastern border city, Van was faced with the poverty of World War II. before overcoming difficulties of the first World War. With the transition to multi-party system, political parties established their local organizations in Van. There started a significant political dynamism in Van. Many statesmen, especially President Bayar, visited Van. Deputies brought many fundamental problems of Van to the agenda of the parliament. There was a fluctuating politics in Van. The CHP won the 1950 general elections, the DP in the 1954 general elections, and the CHP won the 1957 elections, too. With the multi-party system , the face of city developed and changed significantly in Van. Significant investments were made in railways and highways in transportation. Thus, the connection of the city with the outside world was strengthened. Many new schools were opened in the field of education and new health institutions were built. Significant infrastructure investments were made in the city. The construction of dams and factories for its economic development were important steps for the future of the city. However, it was not possible to solve the accumulated problems of this city in a short time due to the lack of investment in the city for many years. However, the transition to multi-party system made a significant contribution to the social and economic development of Van.
