Crime phenomenon is a multi-dimensional concept studied by numerous disciplines. In the literature, especially in urban studies, it was observed that the relations of users in the urban space with each other (social environment) and the environment (physical environment) were directly related to the security and crime in the space. Cities, especially the frequently used city centers, are increasingly referred to concepts like ‘crime’ or ‘unsafe’. Since the concepts of ‘urban locations’ and ‘crime’ are related to each other, the perceptual determination of the elements of urban locations that entail crime causes a significant determination of the problem. From this point of view, therefore, this article is based on data obtained from the surveys carried out with 400 (2018 year) users and crime statistics (2017 year) in Van city center used by all urban residents. The effects of using the main street and streets of the city center over men and women at day and night hours in terms of sense of security were revealed. The findings of the study indicate that not only the crime statistics but also the physical facilities in the place change the sense of security and the sense of security varies according to gender.
