Hosab is a sub-district located in the southeast of Lake Van. In the Republican period, it was renamed as Güzelsu. The fact that it is located on the road of Van-Iran increases its importance. Today it is a town that does not develop much in administrative terms. Selim I (Yavuz) (1512-1520) tried to establish the union in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia with the Çaldıran War in 1514. However, this union was held by his son Süleyman (Kanuni) (1520-1566) in 1548. It was achieved with the Iran Campaign. In the meantime, some local principalities were subject to the Ottoman Empire. These principalities were connected to the provinces of Van and Diyarbekir and managed their places as a sanjak center. Mahmudî Principality, which was subject to the Ottoman Empire after 1548, showed great benefits in the war with the Safavids. This tribe which was Yezidî until the 16th century, later became Sunni- Shafi’i by accepting the sect-al-Sunnah sect. Hoşap Castle, which was the center of the principality by Müküs Bey Han Mahmud in 1829, was captured as a result of a bloody military operation with the support of some lords in the region, and the Mahmudî Principality was removed from the stage of history. Thus, Khan Mahmud became one of the most powerful figures in the region.
