The People’s Houses were established on 19 February 1932 instead of the Turkish Quarters as a means of modernization and culture. The People’s Houses that drive their assets between 1932 and 1951 years, undertook an important task. The People’s Houses have been operating in many topics through the branch offices they have opened in their own right. The Republican administration, which aimed to bring Turkish culture and the official ideology of the state to all parts of the country, used the people’s houses as a means.
During The Second World War, Republican administration strived to carry out his efforts at the community. The Republican government made efforts to ensure that the activities of the people’s houses were carried out without disruption. With the allowanca sent by the CHP General Secretariat and with the help of the people’s presidents and administrators, the people’s houses continued its activities. In this process, Gaziantep, Kilis, Nizip, İslâhiye and Fevzipaşa people houses have tried to be beneficial to the public by giving various seminars and conferences. Notwithstanding they have made important efforts to ensure state-national unity. The public houses have tried to carry out these works through the fields of Language and Literature, Fine Arts, Representation, Sports, Social Aid, Public Classes and Courses, Library and Publication, Villageism, History and Museum Branches. These branches have been given practical information alongside the official ideology of the state. In this study, during The Second World War, the people’s houses which located in the province of Gaziantep, activities were examined.
