The Great Depression, which took place in 1929 and lasted about ten years, affected the whole world, especially the United States. On Thursday, October 24, 1929, the American stock market hits bottom. For this reason, this date is known as Black Thursday. The repercussions of the crisis are deeply felt in every segment of society. Hundreds of thousands of people lose their jobs and homes. There are serious decreases in agricultural product prices. Farmers experience great grievances in this process. Many banks close and chaos ensues in society. When we look at the general atmosphere of the period, it can be said that this crisis showed its effects in many areas. Art and literature are also among these fields. The Great Depression was also the subject of John Steinbeck's novel The Grapes of Wrath. The Grapes of Wrath novel deals with the Great Depression process through the struggle for survival of a farmer family. Drought, unemployment, immigration, being a refugee, marginalization, exploitation of workers, hunger, misery and many other issues are given through the Joad family in the novel.
