It is for sure that the case of having the memorial days greatly valued domestically by the government during the Republican Era is holded for the city of Van also. Those memorial and celebration days are identified with the deliverance and the liberty of the cities. Therefore, those memorial days have been being celebrated as the ‘Liberation Day’ domestically as a reflection of the presence and legitimacy of the ruling ideology. Since the city of Van was occupied by Russians during the World War I. As a result of these paratist activities of Armenians, ‘2nd April 1918’ has taken place in historical literature as the official liberation day of Van as one of those liberation days. There is no doubt that the Russian occupation caused an immense spiritual and material destruction on the city. Apart from embodying a micro example of perception of majesty, 2nd April, in fact, symbolizes a much further meaning for Van than being liberated from occupation. The places being choosed for 2nd April celebrations, preparations being made prior to the celebrate in day by both the civil authorities and the people, participation of the local people with a national consciousness, the excitement during the celebrations are all a matter for local press. In this study, the reflections of the national consciousness that is aimed to be raised in local people by means of 2nd April celebrations by the government is going to be determined. The celebration of the 2nd April which has become official as well as is being held annualy since the Republican Era, and how it spread to local people is going to be analysed especially by the help of local news, columns and photographs.
