Today, risk perception and related to this perception, the ‘fear of crime’ is one of the problems that the urban areas face. Problems such as terror, etc. which arise inrelation with national and regional security problems, keep the citizens away from public spaces, make negative impacts on their life quality and confine them to their houses. At this point, the risk perception of the urban dwellers causes not only the individual, but also the social results.
In this context, the cities of Turkey are being transformed into spaces in which the people do not trust each other and in which the people are estranged, disregarded and even afraid of each other. This results in the separation of living spaces. On the other hand, the decision makers and governors who are in charge of orienting the urbanization are lack of field work resources in hand to benefit from. Due to this absence, this paper is based on a field work research focusing on the effect of the risk perception of the urban dwellers in Turkey.
