Folklore discipline explores all the material and spiritual cultural elements of the people in a scientific manner. Folklore provides an important function in revealing the folk culture in every aspect, researching and protecting it in the light of various theories. While depicting the cultural atmosphere of recent history, it is important to focus on non-governmental organizations and local media elements in order to create a holistic perspective. For this reason, it is necessary to focus particularly on activities within the scope of press, periodicals and associations in multilateral studies.
In this study, the subject and scope of the studies, which were mostly carried out with limited resources, aimed at revealing the cultural richness of the Van region in the 20th century. Folk culture research activities carried out in the Van region focus on issues such as oral cultural products, transitional beliefs and practices, and material culture. It is seen that these studies are mostly carried out thematically, far from a holistic perspective. In addition, it is noteworthy that anonymous folk literature products are predominant in the subject diversity in question. Due to the limited number of trained human resources, the studies were carried out with an amateur spirit from professions such as journalists and teachers, far from an academic approach.
