“Sanatçı kime denir?”, “Sanatçı eserlerinde neyi iham alır?” gibi sorular net bir tanımı olmamasına karşın genel olarak yaşanan olaylardan edindiği duygularını çeşitli teknik ve yöntemler ile ortaya koyan kişi olarak tanımlanabilir. Sanatçı genel bakış açısının dışındadır ve olaylara sıradan bir gözle bakmaz, etrafında gerçekleşen tüm durumlar zihin dünyasını şekillendiren imgelere dönüştürür. Sanatçının zihin dünyasını besleyen durumlar sadece güzel değil, trajediler, yıkımlar ve çirkinlikler esin kaynağını oluşturabilmektedir. Sanatçının esin kaynağı trajediler arasında yer alan hastalık imgesi kökleri çok eskiye giden ve sanat tarihinin birçok döneminde karşılaşılan bir imgedir. Toplumlar tarihlerinin farklı dönemlerinde kendileri için beklenmedik olan hazırlıksız yakalandıkları hastalık ve ölümler ile karşılaşmışlardır. Bu tarz beklenmedik karşılaşmalar toplumların belleklerinde kalıcı izler bırakmış ve toplum hafızalarına kazınmıştır. Toplumlar için böylesine etkisi olan bir durum insanoğlunun sanatsal yaratım sürecine de etki etmiş gerek sanatsal bir imge gerekse sanatçının yaratım sürecine etkileri gözlemlenmiştir. Özellikle büyük yıkımlara neden olan salgınlar toplumların zihinlerinde çaresizlik ve ölüm korkusunun diri kalmasını sağlamıştır. İçinde yaşadığı toplumun durumundan etkilenen sanatçı karşılaşılan bu durumu ilk çağlardan günümüze kadar eserlerinde konu olarak işlenmiştir. Özellikle resimlerinde hastalık ve hastalık kaynaklı duygulara yer veren sanatçıların konuyu farklı şekillerde ele almış olmaları, sanat tarihinin farklı dönemlerinde farklı tekniklerde üretimlerin ortaya çıkmasını sağlamıştır. Sanatçıların betimlemelerinde hastalık temasını ele alış biçimlerinin çözümlemelerinin yapılması dönemim sanatçısının imaj dünyasında her alan hastalıklara bakışını açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır.

The artist is outside the general perspective and does not look at the events with an ordinary eye, all the situations around him turn into images that shape the world of mind. The situations that nourish the artist's mind world are not only beautiful, but tragedies, destructions and ugliness can be the source of inspiration. The image of the illness, which is among the tragedies of the artist's inspiration, is an image that has many roots in the history of art. Societies encountered illnesses and deaths that they caught unprepared for them in different periods of their history. Such unexpected encounters have left permanent marks in the memories of the societies and are engraved in the memories of the society. A situation that has such an impact on societies has also affected the artistic creation process of mankind, and its effects on the artistic process of the artist as well as the artistic image have been observed. Especially the outbreaks that caused great destructions ensured the desperation and fear of death in the minds of the societies. The artist, who was affected by the state of the society in which she lived, was encountered as a subject in her works from the earliest times until today. The fact that the artists, who included the feelings of illness and illness in their paintings, dealt with the subject in different ways, led to the production of different techniques in different periods of art history. Many diseases, including plague and major destructions affecting Europe, plague, which is the most subject in the history of art, have been transferred to the paintings by artists in different forms and techniques. Analyzing the ways of dealing with the theme of the disease in the descriptions of the artists aims to explain the perspective of the artist of the period in every image of the diseases in the image world.
